The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

"I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the skills I want. Any why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in my life" --Sylvia Piath

In this book we follow along with Nora Sneed on her journey between life and death. She discovers thta the Midnight Library holds every book about her root life and all her possible lives. Every decision, even the smallest, changes the course of her life which leaves millions of possible lives she could have but will never live.

This is the most unique and thought provoking possibility about what could happen between life and death in a very sweet way as she unravels what she truly wants in life and what will make her happy!

The Butterfly Effect by Midwest author Rachel Mans McKenny

All Iowa Read title for 2022

This books follows an introverted entomologist named Greta whose world is turned upside down when her twin brother falls critically ill. After she rushes from to Ames to care for him, her career (butterfly scientist at Reimen Gardens), her education (finishing her thesis), her relationship with her ex-boyfriend (who's her new boss), and her feelings for her grad school classmate along with dealing with her absent mother and future sister-in-law, all metamorphosized in ways that she didn't expect.

Fans of the characters in "A Man Called Ove" and "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine" will find similarites with Greta and delight in the references to places in Central Iowa.

The Unsettling of America by Wendell Berry

This is an interesting read of the criticism of modern orthodox agriculture. Mr. Berry brings up many interesting points worth considering, like the idea that small farmers can make it without selling out to large corporations but they have to be willing to think and work outside the box and in conjunction with conservation and ecology departments helping to work with the land and not against it.

Wendell Berry is an author of many talents writing poetry, fiction and non-fiction alike. I enjoy his style and his wit and humor!
